I love to discover new coffee shops. In Franschhoek (South Africa) my favourite is ‘Terbodore’, in Amsterdam I like to go to ‘De Koffiebranderij’ and in Plettenberg Bay (South Africa) Le Fournil is on top of the list. Coffee roasters, little bakeries, deli’s and lunch rooms; I love it all and one day I might (maybe…) open my own. Today I will tell you more about Nord Coast in Hamburg. It’s an absolute hotspot. I liked everything about their concept.
The interior is upmarket and hipster-like, but still cosy and warm.
You will feel at home at Nord Coast from the moment you step into their modern roasters building located in the city center of Hamburg (and in foodie street ‘Deichstraße’).
Raw beans from all over the world (for example Guatemala, Tanzania, Honduras or Kenia); ready for roasting!
A machine we love to see in coffee shops: the roasting machine! The smell during roasting process isn’t great if you’d ask me, but the product afterwards (and the smell afterwards when brewing the coffee) is fantastic!
At Nord Coast they taste (this is called ‘cupping’ in coffee language) smell and create different kind of coffee blends and roasts. Also, they use several ways to brew coffee: with a professional espresso machine, cold press, French press, drip (or filter) coffee, manually ‘pouring’ and more….
The classic way and the way most baristas still like to serve coffee: with a beast of a coffee machine like this one is. The water on the right in this photo causes plus-point too; cucumber infused water, refreshing, free of charge!
A very cool image on the wall of a coffee bean.
The cappuccino I had at Nord Coast was – I think – the best or one of the best I had in 2016. And I love cappuccinos in the morning and espresso or Macchiato in the evening so I had a lot this year. This blend at Nord Coast is so beautiful, soft and delicate. Not bitter at all, the coffee hot but not too hot, the milk perfect for cappuccino, blend well with the coffee. It was simply perfect. The best.
And this waffle was heaven too. Light, fluffy, tasty. Not dry. I still dream about it! Probably my best Brussels waffle ever, in Hamburg, Germany! Isn’t that ironic? Besides waffles one can order breakfast (granola muesli, fruit, banana bread or scrambled eggs with bread), cakes and waffles and lunch (panini for example with ham, avocado or mozzarella).
The Germans and their feeling for design, their creativity and the will to recycle products. Gotta love these light bulbs…
….and flowers!
Dogs are welcome in Nord Coast. Why not!?
