Steak tartare and fries cravings during lunch hour and in Amsterdam? No, worries, I have a perfect place for you! Morgan & Mees, situated in the South Eastern part of the city, not far from Amsterdam’s famous ring of canals, the Anne Frank House, de Jordaan and ‘De 9 Straatjes’ (the 9 Streets). This is a lovely hotspot for breakfast lunch, drinks, snacks and dinner. And if you want to stay over they have hotel rooms too!

Morgan & Mees is situated in a very majestic old building. It could have been a bank, notary, or lawyer office! But in fact it is a small hotel, restaurant & bar. I was there recently with my brother Niels, who loves Italian espresso, risotto alla Milanese, poached eggs, a well designed computer game and to go for a run (and by the way.. he is also my “technical support guy & web designer”! Without him this blog was a digital mess).

Breakfast

Niels (brother) took the poached eggs on sourdough with bacon and Hollandaise sauce and he liked it! Other ‘breakfast-like’ dishes here are the French Toast, Yoghurt with homemade granola, pancakes with banana, oatmeal, almond milk, berries and maple syrup, omelette or scrambled eggs on sourdough.  

Lunch

I took the steak tartare (of course) with homemade fries and mayo. Yum! Other lunch-like dishes are smoked entrecôte with basil mayonnaise, pecorino and pine nuts, ceviche of seabags, oysters, tuna tataki, burgers and ‘ramen’ soup.

Dinner

You can also have dinner at Morgan & Mees; scallops, soft shell crab, Thai beef with chili and peanut sauce, corvina, Côte de Boeuf and Jerusalem Artichoke. Desserts like crème brûlée, blood orange or a cheese platter.
