Recently we visited restaurant ‘De Kruidfabriek by Lute’, alongside the Amstel river in Amstelveen, not far from Amsterdam. Situated in and old (1718) gunpowder factory (“kruidfabriek”), this is a special place. I love the building and interior. Before this area was used to produce explosives, including gunpowder and guncotton. Since 2002 it’s a restaurant, owned and managed by Peter and Marieke Lute. Their cuisine stands for creative contemporary tastiness, that still is affordable too. Using lots of local products including spices and herbs from own garden and green house, they try to be organic and sustainable too. Olive and squid ink to start with….
The interior at De Kruidfabriek by Lute is one of a kind and very tasteful, stylish, using materials as linen, leather and wood. The lightning plan in the whole restaurant was well done too, I think. A glass a day keep the doctor away…. Starter time: Chorizo, Spanish gamba, tomato, paprika and avocado. The Mr. had ‘Baambrugs’ pork belly with langoustine, carrot, wasabi cream and hoisin sauce. And yes, he ‘had to’ share with me. This cute pot arrived on the table…. ….and this beautiful fish was inside Seabass with Thai herbs, roasted on a bed of fir needles (inside the pan) The Mr. had several preparations of quail….. and I forgot what else was with his dish (sorry). The pretty interior. And what do you think about the creative and ‘simple in a way’ wine stock solution on the left wall?
I enjoyed our lunch at De Kruidfabriek by Lute a lot. It’s a beautiful, charming restaurant – suitable for both business as leisure occasions. The service was friendly, the wines were nice and the food creative and tasteful. I would come back here. Next time, maybe in the evening.
