There are many cafés or restaurants to go to for a cup of coffee in Franschhoek. But there is only a few with real good coffee. And, like most people, I have a my favourites! One of them is The Hoek.
This small coffee bar is situated just off the Main Road. You turn right at the first junction after you passed the big white Post Office building on your left, and… There it is, in Daniel Hugo Street, at the right; The Hoek Espresso Bar.
The place is modern, relaxed, with its hipster-style interior, but also with good quality (Deluxe Coffeeworks) coffee and friendly service. Sometimes I find these fancy new places a bit lacking in their product or quality, as they sometimes only have eye for design and a Instagram-worthy interior. And that is not right, in my opinion. But here, at the Hoek, I think it is right! They serve the Deluxe House Blend which is a mix of beans sourced from Brazil, Guatemala and Ethiopia.
You can enjoy your Barista-styled coffee inside or outside, together with a homemade treats (think: oat meal cookie, chocolate dip cookie, or an Italian biscotti..), a breakfast croissant or a chocolate pastry twist. Easy, simple, delicious. There is no space for a kitchen in this tiny place, so if you feel like Eggs Benedict go somewhere else! But just for a delicious coffee with or without a sweet treat it’s a perfect place to go. They also offer free Wi-Fi and there is a nice range of magazines and local newspapers to read.
