6x Franschhoek’s Best Views

Franschhoek is gorgeous, pretty, picturesque and always showing off her beauty. Today I’ll share the best places for a breathtaking view! Great during a day hike or picnic, to enjoy a sundowner drink, or to simply enjoy the view and shoot some Instagram-worthy photo material.

1. Franschhoek Pass and the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve

Great place for hiking or mountain biking. I wrote about the nature reserve already in an earlier blog post.

2. La Petite Ferme and Haute Cabriere

With views almost the same as on the Franschhoek Pass, but a bit lower, La Petite Ferme or Haute Cabrière are the ideal view locations for the nature and view lovers but not so sporty hikers. Same view, no hiking boots but high heels and a glass of wine. Perfect.

3. Dieu Donne winery

Fantastic panoramic views, nice snacks and sundowner menu. Sunshine till late.

4. Mont Rochelle hotel, winery with the MIKO and the Country Kitchen restaurant

A little while ago I wrote already an article about the delicious food at the renewed Country Kitchen at Mont Rochelle. The estate of Sir Richard Branson with hotel, spa, two restaurants, a hotel bar, a winery and a wine tasting area is located on the slopes of a mountain in Franschhoek. It’s more or less the only place on this side of the valley to go to for unique views towards the Franschhoek Pass. Most of the views in Franschhoek are from the other side. Therefore it’s unique and great for orientation to go here. Take you binoculars, have a drink or lunch and enjoy!

5. La Motte hiking trail

La Motte and its grounds are a piece of paradise on it’s own. Plan the La Motte hiking trail, it’s an easy and short one, with your family, lover or friends and enjoy nature and views at its best! Finish off with lunch at Pierneef à La Motte.

6. Le Lude Boutique Winery

The newest kid on the block in this lists; Le Lude Winery. Situated at the foot of Franschhoek Pass, but with quite different views again than for example from Haute Cabrière or La Petite Ferme. For the best moules-frites you go here, and also for the most tasty Beef Tagliata, their Méthode Cap Classique bubbles and for delicious home baked French bread. I wrote already a blog post about a lunch I had at L’Orangerie restaurant at Le Lude.

*Note: I have not been asked or payed to write about Franschhoek’s best views. It was my own idea. All photos are mine.
